THE Best Diet Secret EVER

OK I have found it. I've figured it out. It took a long time, but I finally have found the secret to losing weight. It's a huge secret so if I tell you, you have to promise never to tell another soul. You promise? Cross your heart and hope to die? Stick a needle in your eye? OK here it is...

Wait for it...

Eat healthy and excersize!!! I know it sounds silly...but it works!! I've not been excersizing as much as I'd like but I am doing more than before. And I've been eating a lot of salads. And the weight is coming off! Ian even noticed. I think I just had to get to the point where I really wanted to be healthy. Of course I want to look good too, but I was so sick of being tired all the time and getting tired just carrying David upstairs. So there's my great big diet secret. :) Oh and I've also noticed that the healthier I eat, the more I want to eat healthy. But if I start the day off not eating well, my whole day is shot.

I think it's an age thing too. Not that you are old...LOL. But before I was pregnant with Porter I lost a lot of weight just by changing how I ate. I guess I also worked at a job where I was always on my feet. Now I can eat nothing at all, but I don't do some sort of exercise, the scale doesn't budge. Doesn't your metabolism slow down with age??

I totally agree. With the girls, I didn't even try to eat healthy and the weight came off. This time, I tried to eat healthy and nothing came off. It wasn't until I added excersize and really focused on eating well that it's been working. And yes, not that I'm old, but I am oldER than I was, so it's made it different.

So, the question is....how do you eat healthy? Dave and I have been trying it since we've been married and we can't seem to buckle down. We both want it a lot, but the unhealthy food just tastes so darn good!

ITA Shannon! It is hard, sometimes I just don't eat, cuz nothing healthy sounds good. I have a couple favorite salads that I take turns eating when I cook a not-so-diet-friendly dinner. I keep Slimfast on hand for quick to-go meals, or agian, for nights when I don't want to eat what I made for the kids - like sloppy joes for example. Eat a good breakast, I'm like Mom - I eat oatmeal almost everyday. A lot has to do with quantities and I always try to eat a protein and a good carb. Like a turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread. Or grapes (good carb) and string cheese. I'm not like Megan - I like to exercise. It's the chips and dip that get me!

Oh how I wish I liked excersize. I'm just a wuss...I don't like getting all hot and sweaty - two things that don't happen when you excersize in the water. :) I've been eating a lot of salads, eating smaller portions of food, and then having healthy snacks in between. My two favorite snacks are craisins with almonds, and string cheese with animal crackers. So I have one of those in the morning and one in the afternoon. I also try to have a little bit of chicken with each salad so I don't get so hungry in between meals. As far as breakfast, I seem to do better when I have little to no breakfast. It seems that if I fill my belly in the morning then I'm more hungry throughout the day. And the last thing that I've had the hardest time with is cutting treats out of my day altogether. I'm so used to having a sweet treat after just about every meal so that's been a hard one. But if we don't have it in our house, then I can't eat it! So I just haven't been baking much at all. And the few times that I do bake, we try to give most of it away. I gave 3/4 of Mckenna's birthday cake to some friends. We had enough for two nights of small desserts for everyone and I thought that was plenty.

You girls are so inspirational. Great comments....it sounds like you have to find what works best for you and your family. I just read an article that pool walking is a good exercise...My knees are so bad right now, and I know its due to a lack of regular exercise. The physical therapist that worked on my shoulders said that the body is designed for movement and that exercise is an essential to keeping fit and healthy.
